Parenting in the Age of Misinformation: What can I trust?

Parenting in the Age of Misinformation: What can I trust?

The unfortunate thing about social media and popular books, even those created by by licensed mental health professionals, is that they may not reflect current best practices based on the research we have available.

This means that a parenting framework or idea that seems like a good one and resonates may not produce the results you are looking for. Or, the results may be positive, but less significant than if you tried a different approach.

This is why we have research – to test ideas. Ideally, over time, we have a mountain of evidence that upholds a framework as one that works and as more effective when compared to other frameworks. Of course, there are always new frameworks that are exciting and promising. However, families should exercise a level of caution when they conflict with well-researched and effective frameworks.

We are often asked for recommendations for books or social media accounts that we trust. This blog post is to share some of our current go-tos!
